sul lato inferiore: INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPERATING THE "LONDON MAGAZINE" SAVINGS BANK. | To take PENCE and HALF PENCE. | TO SET BANK | IMPORTANT. 1. Before setting Bank always see that sliding spin in slot on | top box is to the extreme left, thus. | 2. Turn pence (large) wheel in direction of curved arrow till the | required number of pence is opposite its pointer. | 3. Turn shillings (small) wheel similarly to the required number of | shillings. This release locking belt. | CAUTION. In setting the Bank for shillings only set shillings | wheel first, otherwise set pence wheel first. If setting the Bank | for pence only the dash - on the shillings wheel must be | opposite its pointer. | NOTE - Before Closing lid see that required amount appears correctly | on the outside lid of Bank. | TO WORK BANK | 1. Push sliding pin on top of lid to extreme right end of slot | thus. | 2. Pull open shutter in front, insert coin, close shutter. | 3. Push sliding pin sharply to extreme left of slot, when the coin will fall into the Bank and its value be registered. | NOTE - When the amount for wich the Bank was set has been inserted | the sliding pin and shutter are locked, remaining so until the Bank | has been reset. | Exceptional thin, bent or damage coins should not be used.

Il salvadanaio è stato probabilmente distribuito insieme al periodico "London Magazine" fondato per la prima volta a Londra nel 1732 come "The London Magazine". Nel corso del tempo la pubblicazione cambiò nome e subì varie interruzioni. Nel 1900 il "Harmsworth's Monthly Pictorial Magazine" fu rinominato "London Magazine" da Cecil Harmsworth, proprietario del Daily Mail. La pubblicazione proseguì fino al 1930 come parte della casa editrice "Amalgameted Press". Venne poi rinominato "New London Magazine" e chiuse nel 1933.
Nel 1954 venne dato ad un altro periodico il nome di "London Magazine" e la sua pubblicazione è tuttora in corso.
Per tali ragioni è sembrato opportuno modificare la datazione originariamente attribuita dal collezionista A. Quarti (anni Trenta) e collocare il range temporale prima del cambio di denominazione della rivista in "New London Magazine" e della sua chiusura nel 1933 (anni Venti).
